How to effectively read, learn, absorb and apply the information?

Published by Kindaichi under Self-Help

This question arises because there are so many blogs providing unique, quality content on the many different things on make money online or on the subjects that you are interested in. Personally I feel that it is almost impossible to fully utilizes them in a short period of time.

To answer this golden question, got four components, namely suggested by the four words, read, learn, absorb and apply.

1. Read the blog post or article.

Must learn and apply speed reading by Tony Buzan in this case. I read other people’s blogs and websites for the ultimate goal of make money online. To achieve this ultimate dream, I got a series of goals and subgoals, down to some simple tasks to be done each day.

So consider the purpose of reading that article, what are you trying to get from it? To learn a technical task such as backing up your WordPress blog or installing and using some plugins?

2. Learning the concepts or whatever technical things that is required.

Learning is most effective when you practices doing it. It is like you will never learn how to ride a bicycle or drive a car if you do not physically go and ride or drive.

Likewise, especially for technical things like uploading the Wordpress softwares through an FTP program to your web host’s server and adding a 301 redirect, you need to physically go through doing the things when reading or watching a video tutorial on how to do them.

As a consequence of the above facts, it is best that you read those technical how to posts or video tutorials when you are going to do the very same technical tasks that is being taught by it.

3. Absorb the concepts, information and knowledge.

If necessity is the mother of invention, then repetition is the mother of skill. Think back about your life, when you can perform competently in some areas, is it a result of repeatedly practicing doing it in the right way?

4. Applying the knowledge gained.

In short, consider the purpose of reading in the first place. All the ideas, concepts, statistics, information and knowledge in this world are of no use if they are not directed toward some meaningful ends.

Think about it, what is the use of reading about all the wonderful things that some WordPress plugins can do for you if you decides to continue using the free blog at blogger.com. You may as well read that particular article after you sign up for some web hosting, upload the WordPress softwares, to save time and effort.

The above four things are some strategies of dealing with the information explosion occurring in our present day and age.

What do you think? Got better answers to the above question?

Standard Things to do for Creating a Blog Post

Published by Kindaichi under On Writings

Just like in academic studies, there are standard things to do regardless of whether the materials that you study is easy, moderate or difficult. In this blog post, I will discuss about what standard operating procedures that one will have to go through when getting ideas, researching on what to write based on the ideas and then writing the post itself.

Take for example, I intend to create a blog post on teaching people how to do some customizations to some existing WordPress templates. The first thing that I will do is to Google online on related articles on it that have already been written, then seeks to further improve on it in the following ways.

1. Using a lesser number of words to express the same idea without losing clarity.

Humans do not like to read a lot of words on computer screens, they may like to when reading printed books, but definitely not spend hours looking at the bright LCD screens.

2. Effective use of pictures and/or screenshots to explain concepts or illustrate some steps.

Sometimes beautiful pictures of anime characters or photos of nice scenery are totally unrelated to what you are talking about, but the authors still places them within blog posts. The simple reason is to make it more visually appealing.

But for teaching people to do some how to technical stuffs, some screenshots are necessary, some people are really computer idiots when it comes to technical stuffs.

3. Are they better ways to present the content?

Most of us have been through high schools and/or colleges. We have seen that there are differences between a good and a totally fxxk out lecture notes/textbooks. There are most probably more than one textbook written on the same Newton Laws of Motion to how heat is transfer from one place to another.

But why almost everyone will prefer to buy, read and study one particular textbook over another?

For the very simple reason that they will spend less time and efforts using that particular textbook to learn the same concepts than others. Similarly, despite the fact that there are more than one webpage that contain similar materials online, you can make the online world a better place by presenting your written content well.

4. Burrow the ideas but not words from existing blog posts that already talks about the materials that you intend to write about.

Sometimes the ideas for some blog post that you have are not found anywhere online yet, yet at the same time you see that related websites got contain ideas on the stuff that you going to write that you did not think of.

As a result, you can make your blog post more comprehensive by adding on the ideas from elsewhere but in your own words and with the above points for improvements.

5. Use a different analogy.

Often the author will use an analogy to explain a certain concept, but you may feel that a different analogy may be better than the one currently uses. Hence, you can make incremental improvement to it by using a better analogy or simply uses a more humorous and creative outrageous analogy than the original version.

6. Use a different example.

Other than analogy, another common way to give more clear explanation to some concepts is using example. Perhaps this method is often used in the teaching of Mathematics.

Using a better example to bring across the same concept will enable your readers to learn the same thing using far less time and efforts.

In conclusion, you will not be adding on the information pollution that characterizes the new Internet Economy and creates value for humanity at the same time.

Permalinks for WordPress Blog Posts

Published by Kindaichi under WordPress Lectures

Some make money online newbies may not know about this important feature that is required for blogs. Whether you used WordPress, Blogger, TypePad or any other types of blogging platform, it is important that you take note of the difference between the two main different types of permanent links available and used the one that is better for both web users and search engine optimizations.

1. Default and look not nice type.

http://www.yourdomainname.com/?p=N for a particular blog post.

http://www.yourdomainname.com/?cat=N for a particular category.

where N is usually a whole number or integer.

2. The more nicer and commonly used by everyone type

http://www.yourdomainname.com/year/month/day/blog-post-name for a particular blog post.

http://www.yourdomainname.com/category/category-name for a particular category.

Important Things to take note . . .

The 2nd type of Permalink is much more appealing to the eyes and desirable from a web user and SEO standpoints.

But some of the WordPress Themes that you download from some websites here, there and everywhere may not by default uses the 2nd type of Permalink.

Fortunately, changing to the 2nd type is as easy as clicking your mouse a few times. Follow the simple steps below to change your Permalink to the 2nd type or a custom structure.

1. Log on to your WordPress Account at your own domain name. Usually the log on address is like this http://www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin.

2. Go to Options > Permalinks Tab, click on the button next to Date and name based which is the type that most people uses.

Web Statistics Tools

Published by Kindaichi under E-Biz Tools

Anyone having an online presence, be it a simple blog/website or some large e-commerce sites will inevitable needs to have some forms of Statistics measurement. Measuring web statistics is important if you want to track how many visitors to your website, how long they spent on and whether they got clicked on any of your links. There are two free popular web statistics tools commonly used nowadays which are similar in a lot of aspects. So you only need to choose one instead of installing two counter codes on your website. The two tools I mentioned about is sitemeter.com and statcounter.com.

Some standard things that a web statistics tool must provide.

1. The referring URLs.

Referring URLs means the links on other people’s websites that people click on to land on one of your pages. Having this data is crucial if you want to know how effective the linkbait at that referring page is.

2. Search terms people used to arrived at your site.

Needless to say, this function is needed if you want to do search engine optimization to target certain long-tail keywords. People doesn’t search things using some short and popular keywords only or should I say that it is hard to appear in the top ten results for some popular short keywords.

Remember that if your blog/website appear after the 1st 4 result pages of any search engines is as good as not being existed at all. Your blogs/websites appearing in the top 20 results for some long tail keywords with only maybe a few searches (less than ten searches) are much better than the some websites rank 40th and beyond for some popular terms like “make money online”.

3. Which links on your blogs/websites are clicked on

This piece of data is required if you got promote other people’s products and services, i.e. affiliate selling. You need to know the percentage of people visiting your sites that got click on your affiliate links. From this percentage value, you can know how effective your particular post is at preselling the products/services.

4. Which countries/regions your visitors come from

This data actually doesn’t got much uses unless your blogs/websites target some regional traffic.

Knowing that people from various countries and nationalities read your blogs can boost your ego and create a sense of achievement.

Some lessons learned from those paid to read emails . . .

Published by Kindaichi under Online Scams

1. Do not enter your real name or personal email account into some relatively unknown paid to read or paid to do something websites. Most websites now got use paypal for payments and since paypal allows you to add a second email account, of course use a “spam email account.”

2. Then of course you can or need to enter your real name and postal address for some important things like applying for Google Adsense or some other pay per click advertising networks accounts. Exercise due diligence yourself and apply some common sense as to which one can and which one cannot/unsafe to enter important information about yourself.

My First Venture into Online Money Making

Published by Kindaichi under Online Scams

The first time I spend money online in order to make money online is buying a paid surveys membership.

It turn out to be short of a scam or a semi-scam. Basically, after paying the membership fees, using the user ID and password given, you get into a website containing hyperlinks to a lot of different websites.

Then you need to sign up individually with each of the websites in the given hyperlinks.

I won’t say that the Paid Surveys is a total scam, it’s just that there are rarely any survey companies that pays you. They usually compensate with saying that your name is entered into a lucky draw. The compensation is a lucky draw chance. What the hell is this?

In addition, your email address will receive a hell lot of spam, signing up individually with each of the websites in the given hyperlinks which they in turn sold your email address to some other third parties.

If you unfortunately has already signed up for those paid surveys as in the following list, surveyscash.blogspot.com, then at least open another “spam” email account from Hotmail, Yahoo mail or Gmail. If not, I guaranteed you that you are going to receive spam in your personal email account until the day you die. Er no, the email account will continue to have spam even after you depart from this Earth.

In short, the only survey company that I got being paid some money is Synovate. But now in the year 2007, I still haven’t make back the fees paid to join the program.

I fall trick to the paid surveys in 2004.

Some lessons learned from this first investment:

1. Co-invest with a friend who are also interested in making money online, especially when the things you are buying is some digital products, like ebooks, pdf files, software and of course, membership sites like above.

Since it is a pdf file in the case of an ebook, there is no reason why you and your friends, boyfriends, girlfriends or sex partners need to pay the purchase price each and at the end of the day getting the same thing. Two or more persons pay, then copy and paste the digital products to another thumdrive or email the digital products to others. Should it turn out to a scams or semi-scams, the amount of money you lost is reduced.

In the case of a membership sites above, you definitely don’t even need to pay for it by yourself, share the purchase price with two or more like minded people, at the end of the day, get a user ID and password, which the whole lot of you can use, be it subscriptions to a paid content site or like some other surveys websites mentioned above, which essentially just contained some hyperlinks to other surveys companies mentioned above.

I would like to add in that as with the following similar survey websites, you need to pay a standard price of $34.95, to access the hyperlinks to the survey companies that pay you to do surveys, you do not need to pay the individual market research companies in order to do surveys.

2. Make sure that the direct response websites got offer money back guarantees. I cannot understand how and why at that time, I choose that particular paid surveys website and not some others as mentioned above. But even if the websites got say money back guarantees, there is also no guarantees that you will get your money back, unless the website uses clickbank to manage its sales.

3. If you find the information or some other digital products to be less desirable than what you thought the sales letter say it is, then please do yourself or your mother a flavor, request your money back. That money is better spent to give yourself or your mother a good treat at a local restaurant.

4. Not researching on forums and see what other people are talking about. Simply typing “Paid Surveys Scams” into Google will reveal what other people are talking about.

5. If after reading the above words, you don’t believe what I said, then go ahead and survey anyway. I bet $10 that you won’t even make enough to cover the cost of joining the program.
